The Amansie South District Assembly in the Ashanti Region has inaugurated an Eight-Member District Census Implementation Committee to oversee the implementation of the 2020 Population and Housing Census (PHC) in the District.

The Committee will provide the complement of skills and competencies needed for the successful conduct of the census in the District.

Mr. William Asante Bediako the District Chief Executive (DCE) who inaugurated the committee said in a strategic move to improve the timeliness of census results, it was expected that the Assembly, chiefs and people would support the efforts of the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), adding that, “we shall mobilize our people to make themselves available during the census period.”

Hon William Asante Bediako disclosed that, the Census Committe Members
is expected to assist in publicity education, Facilitating recruitment and Training of Field Personnel as well as Identification of suitable facilities to conduct training for enumerators and supervisors.

He assured all stakeholders that the Assembly would ensure that the Census become successful and pleaded with everyone to avail their selves during the field enumeration.

Hon Bediako emphasis that, the census would provide a reliable database for policy reviews and ensure systematic improvement in the implementation of Government’s ongoing policies and interventions.

Akrofuom District Assembly Inaugrates DCIC for 2020 Population and Housing Census

The Akrofuom District Census Implementation Committee (DCIC) has been inaugurated at a short ceremony at Akrofuom, the district capital.

The committee members are expected to ensure that the Population and Housing Census which is to be conducted later in the year goes on successful in the district.

The committee among other things is expected to assist in publicity education; facilitate the recruitment of field personnel; assist in the acquisition of secure storage facilities for census materials and a host of others.

Addressing the members, a Director of Administration at the Ghana Statistical Service, Mr Kwadwo Asante commended the members for their appointment unto the committee and urged them to work hard to ensure the successful exercise in the district.

He revealed that the exercise will start on the eve of 28th June which has been declared as the census night. However, several activities will take place prior to the commencement of the exercise and the committee will have to spearhead the process in the district.

He urged the general public to fully participate to make it a success by avoiding being double counted.

In a speech read on his behalf, by the Presiding member of the Assembly, the District Chief Executive Hon. Maurice Jonas Woode, reminded members of the importance of population and housing census in development planning and monitoring of policies and programmes.

He said he was optimistic that the census will afford the district an opportunity to plan and successfully implement the 2020 PHC which will also translate into the planning of the District Assembly development plan as well as its policy-making.

He also charged the committee members to be diligent and work hard to ensure that the right results are achieved. He also appealed to opinion leaders and Nananom in the district to assist the committee to perform their duties effectively.

The District Coordinating Director, Mr Stephen Asante who is the chairman of the DCIC assured the gathering that together with his team, they will perform their roles will for a successful exercise.
The committee members are Mr Stephen Asante (District coordinating Director), Ms Margaret-Mary Anokyewaa (District Census Officer), Mr Ebenezer Ntiamoah (District Planning Development Officer) and Mr George Adu-Abrokwah (District Director of Education)

The rest are Mr Ali Kassim (NCCE Officer), Ms. Sussanna Nkrumah (Ghana Health Service) and Mr. Francis Andoh (District Information Officer).

Teacher assaults 9-year-old pupil for criticising taste of her ‘sobolo’ drink

A teacher at Nkwanata South M/A Redeem Basic of the Oti region has canned a nine-year-old pupil to the point of injury for criticising the taste of her ‘sobolo’ drink.

The pupil (name withheld) sustained multiples injuries on her body as she was severely beaten by her class teacher whose name given was only given as Madam Magdalene.

According to Adom News’ Obrempongba Kwame Owusu, the student was physically assaulted last week Friday after she complained to a friend in the school that the sobolo drink sold by the class teacher was not sweet.

She said her friend threatened to tell the teacher after they had a disagreement and proceeded to tell the class teacher.

According to her, the teacher called her and made her kneel down and called someone to bring her a cane to discipline her.

The student said even the intervention of a Primary 2 class teacher who chanced on the assault did not convince Madam Magdalene to stop beating her.

She told the reporter that the teacher told the class she wants to leave marks on her body to take home to show for her lack of indiscipline.

The pupil claims the teacher also said unsavoury things about her mother.

Isha Razak, mother of the nine-year-old said she is pained and does not understand why the teacher keeps inflicting pain on her ward.

According to her, the teacher takes delight in assaulting her daughter even for making little mistakes in class.

Disclosing that this is the fourth time her daughter has come home with cane marks on her body, she said the teacher calling her a whore in front of her daughter and other people is not something she will take lightly.

She wants school authorities to take up the issue and deal with the teacher.

On his part, Jonathan Korsinah, the Nkwanata South Education Director, noted the directorate has already set up a committee investigate the case.

A/R:TAFO VINCENT ASSAFUAH FILES NOMINATION…TIPPED AS THE HOPE FOR TAFO CONSTITUENCY

The Director of Communication at the Ministry of Education, Mr. Ekow Vincent Assafuah Junior has filed his nomination today, Friday 14th February 2020 to contest the New Patriotic Party’s primaries in the Old-Tafo constituency in the Ashanti region.

Mr. Ekow Vincent, a Polling Station Secretary in the Old-Tafo constituency, is said to be contesting with five other aspirants in a bid to lead the NPP party in the constituency for the 2020 general election come April 25th.

The filing was characterised by a pool of party youth within the constituency who registered their presence at the party office as a subscribtion of their support for his quest for the parliamentary seat.

For majority of the youth, Mr. Ekow Vincent who they described as a darling boy for the constituency has some leadership qualities needed to salvage residents from the litany of challenges suffocating people in the area.

“His undiluted traits including humility, a unifier, visionary, results oriented, loyal, selflessness among others triggered us to give our support to this youngster Ekow Vincent Assafuah”, a fun disclosed.

Ekow Vincent Assafuah Junior is a self-motivated activist with extensive experience in marketing, communications, public administration, business development consultancy and advocacy.

He has a thorough knowledge of government structure, public policy and bureaucracy management.

He is currently a PhD student of Public Administration and Public Policy at the University of Ghana. He holds a Master of Arts in Public Relations from the Ghana Institute of Journalism, Master of Arts in Economic Management and a Master of Science in Development Finance both from the University of Ghana. He again holds a Bachelor of Laws from the Central University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

He is an adjunct lecturer at the Dominion University and the Director of Communication at the Ministry of Education.

He was the acting Deputy Communication Director of the NPP from 2017-2018, and served as the Special Assistant to Samira Bawumia, the Second Lady, from 2015-2017.

VALENTINE’S DAY; NBU OFFICERS COUNSEL BENEFICIARIES ON HOW TO LOVE THE RIGHT WAY

Bureaucrats of the European Union Funded Project -No Business as Usual (NBU) on the 14th of February 2020 counseled beneficiaries of the project on some of the needful relationship guidelines effective in clamping down the various degrees of abuse in love relationship.

As way of celebrating their version of the popular feast day known as Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine together with trainees of the project, officials coincided it with an event dubbed “ Connected Thinking 11b” which was held at the Hub located within the Asokore Mampong Municipality under the theme ; “LOVING THE RIGHT WAY”.

Mirroring the true focus (LOVE) of the annual festival which is mostly associated with romantic love, executives of NBU Project used the event to expose participants aged between 18-35 to the realities of love life and ways in which they can love the right way.

Some of the key intentions behind the event were; providing an avenue for participants to gain valuable tips for a fruitful relationship that would lead to a happy marriage, enable participants engage with counselors and possible ways they can seek for help and also empower participants on the various forms of abuse in relationships and ways for dealing with them.

Speakers including Mrs. Theresa Abreffy Dedu (Esq) Lawyer, Asante-Krobea and Associates and Founder, Beulah Family, Mrs. Rita Serwaa Krampah (Corporate Trainer, Corporate Training Solutions and Ms. Fidelia Serwaa Ankoma (Freelance , Gender Advocate) respectively touched on emotional abuse in marital relationships and ways of dealing with it, physical and sexual abuse in marital relationships and way of dealing with it, case studies of various degrees of abuse and the cultural response towards them.

Addressing the media, Ms. Esther Daley Matey (NBU Project Coordinator) lamented over why enough discussions and education are not given to issues related to sexual and relationship abuse among partners.
“A number of people don’t talk about sex and its related abuse cases. They end up covering them up because they think it’s shameful to talk about them.”, she noted.

Officials she said therefore saw the need to create a platform for youth within the municipality to share their challenges as they receive expert ideas on how to solve problems they go through in their various relationships and pass on the knowledge to others.

Ms. Fidelia Serwaa Ankoma in her statement challenged individuals to speak out and report to the right bodies or people if they are abused by a partner in a relationship instead of keeping silent on them.
